学生文章分享——Kiribati Islands: Sinking or Standing?

七年级 George Fu 同学关于全球变暖的文章

George Fu

Global warming is no longer a philosophical threat, no longer a future threat, no longer a threat at all. It’s our reality.

 -- Bill McKibben

When people talk about climate changes like Global Warming, they change their face really quick. Global Warming was caused because of over-polluting, and it is changing our lives right now. Global Warming can cause climate changes like rising temperatures and heavy rainfall. It can also cause other changes like rising sea levels, which results in sinking islands. The Kiribati Islands are one of them.

The Kiribati Islands are in the central Pacific Ocean. It is a nation made of islands with beautiful palm trees and sandy beaches, but it is slowly sinking down into the depths of the ocean.

Due to the rising sea levels, the Kiribati Islands’ highest points above the sea level is now only 2 meters high, making it easy for the ocean to swallow it. Now, the Kiribati people are thinking whether they should leave their homeland or should they keep staying in the Kiribati Islands. The Kiribati Islands are expected to be the first islands being submerged under the sea because of Global Warming.

Can you ever think of watching your homeland disappear under the sea? I can’t. So, treasure our times living on the continent and try to stop polluting as much as we can to save our beautiful islands!
